History

It all began over 45 years ago. Frank Dembowski jr. opened a small butcher and grocery store on November 1, 1961. It was a lot of long hours and hard work but Frank’s store originally called Rawson Foods became a success. It was a well known small grocery store for many years, serving hand cut fresh meat, fresh cut luncheon meats and a variety of special cheeses. Frank has also been known for his Fresh Home Made Polish Sausage, which is always a special treat during Christmas and Easter.  Every Sunday was the day for Hot Ham and Fresh Baked Rolls plus a variety of Sweet Rolls. The store would be extremely busy after every church service as the customers stopped to pick up their special brunch treats.

In the early 70’s the large chain grocery stores started to appear, this took a toll on the smaller corner grocery stores. At that time a Boy Blue Dairy Treat store was taking over a gas station next to Rawson Foods, Frank thought that this would be a new opportunity and bought the franchise. However, as the years went by, that proved to be a bad investment. During this time Pat had joined Frank as one of his employees. She had always been interested in cooking and started to make some fresh made salads to sell with the hot ham on Sundays. Soon she had added hot sliced roast beef and gravy and created a Stuffed Chicken Breast which to this day is still a popular specialty. And that was just the beginning.

As time went by Frank and Pat added a large variety of different prepared foods. This aspect of the business was starting to grow in leaps and bounds. The Boy Blue store was not doing well and Frank gave up that franchise and bought the building and had it designed into a large kitchen to expand the catering portion of the business. He continued to operate his original grocery store for awhile but closed that and continued into catering, fish frys and a wholesale business of some of our specialty items. As the catering prospered one of Franks friends, an artist suggested that we change our name so that the people living outside our local area would realize that we had ventured into catering, hence the creation of Creative Catering by Rawson Foods. He also created our logo.

So 45 years later we continue to pride ourselves in home made quality prepared food and customer service. Check out some of our menus and services for some of your special events. If what you see isn’t quite the right menu call and we can create a menu for your special occasion.
